The court of appeals affirmed a judgment of the district court. The court held that California principles of issue preclusion barred a former employee’s FEHA and retaliatory termination claims based on the same theories she had unsuccessfully litigated in state judicial and administrative proceedings.

The City of Pasadena hired Karin White as a police officer in 1996. Two years later, White was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, which her doctor said would not limit performance of her official duties. The City terminated White in 2004 for allegedly associating with a known drug dealer (who was also the father of her son) and for lying about her relationship with him.
