SACRAMENTO — A unanimous California Supreme Court on Friday approved the use of citizen-drawn maps in state Senate elections this year despite a pending referendum challenging the boundaries.
The Senate map drafted by the California Citizens Redistricting Commission “is the best of the alternative maps that have been proposed for use in the 2012 elections in the event the proposed referendum qualifies for the ballot,” Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye wrote for the court.
