SAN FRANCISCO — As the corporate practice enters its fourth consecutive humdrum year nationally, a number of law firms are homing in on California’s bright spots.

Technology-related M&A deal work, particularly in the middle market, is one area where firms are hiring laterals and focusing on business development. Tech-related capital markets deals, like Facebook Inc.’s first public offering, are another. Some even see promise in the state’s clean energy projects.
