Q: What do you enjoy most about being a judge?
A: I think it’s an interesting job. The cases are interesting to me. I like to solve problems and I think the bench gives you a greater opportunity to do it than other areas of the law. I thought being a lawyer was interesting, too, but not as interesting as being a judge. It also allows you to feel like you’re doing something for the world as it were, making it perhaps a better place. And there’s the individual aspect of it, where you actually do or say something that actually does change somebody’s life. Now this is much more true of the trial court than it is of the appellate court because the appellate court is attenuated.
