SAN FRANCISCO — Steven Kalar has been named the Northern District’s next federal public defender.
The Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals on Wednesday selected Kalar, a longtime line assistant and current senior litigator in the office, over his colleague, Assistant Federal Defender Shawn Halbert, who competed for the job.
