SACRAMENTO — The Commission on Judicial Performance has elected Lawrence Simi as its new chairman, marking the first time in the agency’s 52-year history that a public member will take the helm.

Simi is the former director of government affairs for Pacific Gas and Electric Co., and he has been a fixture in San Francisco civic affairs. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger first appointed Simi to the CJP in 2005. His current four-year term expires in February 2013.
