SAN FRANCISCO — An early start wasn’t enough to buffer Santa Clara prosecutors and judicial candidates Paul Colin and Cynthia Sevely from any competition, but they’re confident it will be enough to ward off the three local lawyers who are racing against them for two open seats on the bench.

Sevely, 53, and Colin, 57, have each secured nearly 50 endorsements from sitting and retired Santa Clara judges, as well as significant numbers from area attorneys and law enforcement.
