The same day that Silicon Valley deal lawyer Richard Climan announced that his team would move to Weil, Gotshal & Manges, the rest of Dewey’s lawyers were told the firm’s California offices would shut down by May 15.

Remaining staff and associates will be laid off that day, said a California partner who was part of a video conference call held Tuesday afternoon with New York. Partners can keep coming in for an unspecified number of days.
