Karl Olson received a Freedom of Information Award from the California Newspaper Publishers Association. Olson, a partner at Ram, Olson, Cereghino & Kopczynski, specializes in defending news media clients and individuals against defamation and strategic lawsuits against public participation (SLAPP). He graduated from UC-Hastings law school in 1982.
Melissa Slawson has joined Davis Wright Tremaine as an associate in the firm’s communications group. Slawson previously worked at the California Public Utilities Commission, most recently as legal adviser for commissioner Catherine Sandoval. She received her J.D. from California Western School of Law in 2007.
