SAN FRANCISCO — It may not be like Kramer v. Kramer every time, but watching two ex-partners battling each other in court can be as wrenching as divorce proceedings. A San Francisco judge looked askance this past week at arguments that well-known California plaintiffs attorney Terry O’Reilly did all he could to produce documents related to a $2.5 million fee dispute with his former law partner, Michael Danko — and considered sanctions against O’Reilly for what his former partner characterized as discovery dalliances.

The hearing was the latest in a protracted e-discovery battle between the two San Mateo personal injury attorneys who practiced together for 14 years before splitting up in the spring of 2009.
