SAN FRANCISCO — After 12 years and four Ninth Circuit opinions, the litigation over gun shows at the Alameda County fairgrounds appears to be over — and without the definitive Second Amendment ruling the plaintiff firearm dealers were looking for.

The county originally had sought to ban gun shows on county property, but more recently took the position that dealers can display and sell guns so long as they’re tethered by cable to a fixture, much as cellphones are displayed by retailers.
