SACRAMENTO — The author of a bill to place time limits on depositions has dropped several key provisions in the wake of negotiations with defense counsel.

AB 1875 by Assemblyman Mike Gatto, D-Burbank, would still cap most depositions at seven hours over one day. But language that would have spread that seven hours over two or more days for the sick and elderly has been stricken. And the bill now exempts expert witnesses and complex cases with more than five defendants from the time limit.
