SAN FRANCISCO — The next stop for the Proposition 8 case is the Supreme Court.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit on Tuesday denied Prop 8 backers’ request for a rehearing before a larger en banc panel of the court, meaning their only hope of preserving California’s ban on gay marriage is high court intervention — which they’ve vowed to seek.
