Five Am Law firms landed outside counsel roles on a series of transactions that saw corporate behemoths Google Inc., Oracle Corp. and Starbucks Corp. move to expand in key areas this week by making relatively modest acquisitions.

On Monday, Google said it had agreed to pay a reported $100 million to buy Silicon Valley startup Meebo Inc. Starbucks announced the same day that it had purchased San Francisco-based Bay Bread LLC, also for $100 million. And on Tuesday, a day after competitor Salesforce.com said it had agreed to purchase social media marketing company Buddy Media for $689 million, Oracle said it was buying social media analytics company Collective Intellect Inc. (No information was available about the latter deal’s terms.)
