SAN FRANCISCO — It was a he-said, she-said story. A 15-year-old girl alleged that a 46-year-old neighbor — a popular youth soccer coach — had molested her several times between 2004 and 2007. The man swore he was innocent and that the girl was making it all up.

Last year an Alameda County judge took the rare step of throwing out the case following only a preliminary hearing. “I’m not saying that she is deliberately lying, but I do feel that a lot of details of this incident are confused in her mind,” Judge Armando Cuellar Jr. said at the time.
