SAN FRANCISCO — The top lawyers included in Recorder sibling publication Corporate Counsel‘s latest GC Compensation Survey saw their overall compensation take a dive last year, thanks to the economy, poor share performance and the growing popularity of say-on-pay resolutions.

But that wasn’t the case for many of the California-based general counsel, who saw their average salaries and bonuses jump last year. For the highest-paid Fortune 500 general counsel included in the survey, the average base salary declined 1.8 percent to $611,411.
