SAN FRANCISCO — Last year, law partners of Oakland city councilwoman Jane Brunner challenged Barbara Parker’s appointment as Oakland city attorney. So it’s no surprise that Brunner is trying to dislodge Parker in the November election.

But at least one Parker supporter was surprised by a Brunner campaign email last week accusing the incumbent of improperly accepting campaign donations from partners at firms that do legal work for the city. According to Brunner, 28 percent of Parker’s donations came from lawyers at firms her office has used as outside counsel.
