SAN FRANCISCO — Four years ago, he was watching election returns with his good friend, Barack Obama. This Tuesday Jeffrey Bleich was watching America vote from halfway across the world in Canberra as the U.S. ambassador to Australia.

Bleich joked in an Election Day interview that one difference this time is his job is on the line. But no matter who wins the White House, the Bay Area litigator and former State Bar president said he expects he’ll soon be moving on.
