Ninth Circuit Senior Judge Betty Binns Fletcher died on Oct. 22, at age 89, after serving on the court for 33 years. The author, a longtime friend and Ninth Circuit colleague, prepared these remarks for Fletcher’s Nov. 10 memorial service.

It is a great honor to participate in this memorial for Judge Betty Binns Fletcher with her relatives and friends. She was one of the greatest human beings I have been privileged to know. My husband, Jim, who died last year, and I considered Betty and husband, Bob, to be two of our closest and dearest friends for over three decades.
