SACRAMENTO — Dec. 3 will mark the end of an era at the state Capitol. That’s the day when dozens of newly elected legislators will be sworn into office — and the state Senate will say goodbye to its last remaining Republican lawyer-legislator.

Senator Thomas “Tom” Harman, a Huntington Beach attorney, is termed out after serving six years in the upper house. His departure brings to an end a long line of GOP attorneys — many of them Orange County-based — who capped their legislative careers in the state Senate or, more often, used the office to launch new political endeavors.
