SAN FRANCISCO — The new Silicon Valley outpost of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office may still lack physical office space. However, it has landed a second employee.

Attorney Neil Smith, a veteran of patent litigation in the Bay Area, is leaving Ropers Majeski Kohn & Bentley to become an administrative patent judge on the PTO’s newly established Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
