The economic climate of the past few years has forced many associates (and partners) to remain with their current firms even if they have been contemplating a move or do not think they will remain in their current position long-term. As firms’ financial pictures stabilize and begin to expand, lawyers are beginning to feel more confident about making strategic career moves, and fortunately, more opportunities are available to do so.

The vast majority of associates contemplate moving and most switch firms at some point in their careers. The majority of large-firm associates move in the first five years of practice. It is rare that an associate will stay at any one firm for the duration of their career.
