SACRAMENTO — Warren George’s first job out of law school was helping inmates in a New York state prison with their legal cases. Several decades later the veteran litigator is returning to his roots, albeit with a West Coast twist.

George, who has announced his retirement from Bingham McCutchen after a 40-year career, will be joining the Prison Law Office in Berkeley next week. In recent years, the nonprofit public interest firm has been one of the driving forces behind legal efforts to improve prison conditions in California.
