SAN FRANCISCO — Life sciences company Illumina Inc. is bringing on Charles Dadswell as its new general counsel, replacing the retiring Christian Cabou, who had been with the company since 2006.

Dadswell has been a longtime in-house lawyer in the life science and pharmaceutical fields, most recently as global director of IP and GC of the North American arm of French diagnostics company bioMerieux. He was GC of pharmaceutical company BioDelivery Sciences International Inc. from 2008 to 2011. Prior to that, Dadswell spent 14 years in various legal roles at the British pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline Plc.
