SAN FRANCISCO — Patience is a virtue at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, where partners value plodding progress over feverish growth.

But the famously conservative Los Angeles-based firm made one of the splashiest leaps in the Am Law 100 this past year. Its gross revenue spiked 11 percent to $1.29 billion in 2012, landing it at No. 10 on this year’s Am Law 100 list, up two spots from last year. Gibson Dunn’s 14 percent rise in profits per partner, which now stand at $2,810,000, outpaced all other firms in the PPP top 20.
