SAN FRANCISCO — Despite partisan fighting in Washington, D.C., the distinguished Orrick name will once again be a fixture in San Francisco’s federal courthouse.

The Senate on Wednesday confirmed William Orrick III, a longtime litigator at Coblentz, Patch, Duffy & Bass, to fill the Northern District seat previously held by his father. The vote was 56-41. Just three Republican senators supported Orrick, who drew opposition for his work on immigration issues as an official in the U.S. Justice Department from 2009 to 2012.
