SAN FRANCISCO — Legislation that would force greater transparency in consumer arbitration proceedings has lacked enough votes to pass so far this week, leaving its author one day to find enough support in the California State Assembly.

Arbitration companies and business groups, which have grown increasingly reliant on them, have strongly opposed AB 802. The bill’s author, Assembly Judiciary Chairman Bob Wieckowski, D-Fremont, said the opposition has made finding votes increasingly hard. State rules give Wieckowski until Friday to put the bill up for a vote before it’s dead.
