OAKLAND — It was tit for tat as two competitors in web site translation faced off before a jury on Monday in a patent trial that has been years in the making. Up first in U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken's courtroom, an attorney for TransPerfect Global Inc. knocked the patents asserted by rival, MotionPoint Corp.

MotionPoint was late to the game and "stood on the shoulders of true pioneers" when it obtained patents related to website translation, said TransPerfect's lead lawyer Douglas Lumish of Latham & Watkins.
