SAN FRANCISCO — Manatt, Phelps & Phillips has recruited a former leader of Goldman Sachs — the sister of Governor Jerry Brown — to join its Los Angeles office.

Kathleen Brown, who served as chair of investment banking in the Midwest region for Goldman Sachs, started at Manatt as a partner last week. She served as California State Treasurer in the early '90s and ran for governor as the Democratic nominee in 1994. Brown will help healthcare, energy and financial services institutions navigate government and regulatory affairs, in addition to offering business counseling.
