SACRAMENTO — Sidley Austin has stepped in to defend pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co. against preemptive patent litigation brought by Foster City-based rival Gilead Sciences.
M. Patricia Thayer, a partner in Sidley’s San Francisco office, entered her appearance Wednesday in the case, which is pending in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Thayer heads the firm’s intellectual property litigation practice on the West Coast.
