Latham & Watkins and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati were tapped for Monsanto Co.’s acquisition of The Climate Corporation, a San Francisco agri-tech startup.

St. Louis-based Monsanto will pay $930 million for The Climate Corporation, which was founded in 2006 by engineers and data scientists with roots at Google and other Silicon Valley technology companies. The Climate Corporation offers seasonal monitoring, analytics and a more robust insurance product to help farmers yield more value from their crops—an attractive suite to Monsanto, which develops genetically modified seeds and other products. Monsanto reported a steeper-than-expected fourth quarter net loss of $249 million but ended the year with a healthy net income of $2.5 billion, an increase of approximately $400 million from the prior year.
