SAN FRANCISCO — The government of Malaysia was none too happy when it discovered that Internet domain names bearing a trademark of its national oil company were being redirected to a pornography web site.

Petroliam Nasional Berhad, also known as Petronas, complained to domain name registrar GoDaddy.com, even enlisting the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to write a letter on its behalf. But it was not until Petronas obtained two separate court orders — for www.petronastower.net and www.petronastowers.net — that GoDaddy stopped forwarding traffic for those urls to www.camfunchat.com.
