Sergio Garcia isn’t going to be admitted to the California bar just yet, but the undocumented immigrant’s dream of practicing took another step forward Wednesday.

The California Supreme Court put its review of Garcia’s application on hold until Jan. 2, the day a new state law permitting the admission of undocumented immigrants takes effect. The court also invited Garcia, the State Bar and any interested amicus curiae to submit new briefing on the effects of the new law.
