SACRAMENTO — A Southern California assemblyman has introduced legislation that he says will limit public agencies’ collection and long-term storage of Big Data on Californians.
Assembly Bill 1442 by Mike Gatto, D–Silver Lake, would apply state laws on maintaining personal records to local agencies. It would also specifically force school districts to notify parents if they’re collecting data on students and to destroy that information once a child turns 18 or leaves the district.
