SAN FRANCISCO — In what may be the first civil verdict for revenge porn, a San Jose jury has awarded $250,000 to a woman whose intimate photos went viral after falling into the hands of her ex-boyfriend’s new lover.

Jurors, who began their deliberations on Valentine’s Day, awarded damages on Tuesday for negligence and invasion of privacy, among other claims. Jonathan Bruce was accused of sharing intimate snapshots of his longtime girlfriend with his new partner, Ranila Rodil. Rodil then created a fake Facebook profile featuring the images and extended friend requests to the plaintiff’s friends, family and colleagues, according to court papers.
