Fleeting-photo messaging service Snapchat Inc. has snapped up its first general counsel, a litigator from Hogan Lovells in Washington, D.C.

Christopher Handman’s first day at the Venice Beach-based startup was Thursday, according to Re/code. He had been in Hogan Lovells’ appellate practice, and during his first few years at the firm, he worked for now-Chief Justice John Roberts. Previous to that, he clerked for U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly of the District of Columbia and Judge Patricia Wald of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
