SAN FRANCISCO — Clients have long grumbled about the burden of satisfying discovery obligations and the costs and benefits of settling and litigating troll cases. A patent prosecutor, an intellectual property litigator and a former in-house attorney think they can help.

Judith Szepesi, Anne Rogaski and Julie Stephenson have joined forces to launch HIPLegal, a boutique firm in Cupertino focused on counseling technology companies on IP issues. By educating clients—startups or companies lacking in-house IP expertise—about IP issues and litigation approaches in the context of their business goals and strategies, HIPLegal (“HIP” as in High-tech Intellectual Property) aims to help clients avoid litigation or minimize the associated cost “down the road,” Rogaski says.
