OAKLAND — A federal judge sentenced an East Bay man to 15 years in prison Thursday for selling to China industrial trade secrets developed by DuPont Co.

U.S. District Judge Jeffrey White struck a middle ground between the 17 to 22 years requested by federal prosecutors and the five to 10 years proposed by lawyers for defendant Walter Liew. But White stressed he felt no need to go easy on Liew, whose actions he characterized as a white-collar crime spree.
