SAN FRANCISCO — Lawyers for Apple Inc. scored a sweeping defense victory this week in a patent trial against nonpracticing entity GPNE Corp.

A San Jose jury returned Wednesday with a verdict that Apple’s iPhones and iPads don’t infringe two data-transmission patents. GPNE had sought nearly $94 million in damages. The outcome is a win for Apple lawyers Ruffin Cordell and Christopher Green of Fish & Richardson, and Mark Selwyn and Joseph Mueller of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr.
