SAN FRANCISCO — Morrison & Foerster has signed on to defend LinkedIn Corp. against a suit claiming the online professional network violates a federal consumer protection law by providing reference reports about potential hires to paid subscribers.

Tiffany Cheung, chair of MoFo’s consumer class actions practice, filed a notice of appearance in Sweet v. Linkedin, 14-4531, on Friday, along with associate Angela Kleine and senior of counsel James McCabe.
