SACRAMENTO — How did tech’s political fortunes fare in California on election night? Nearly 24 hours after the polls closed the definitive answer remained elusive because, even in the home of Silicon Valley, no one’s figured out a way to tally ballots any faster in tight races.

What we do know is that in San Francisco, David Chiu was leading fellow supervisor David Campos by just under 2,400 votes in the race for the 17th Assembly District. That’s a sizable gap for Campos to overcome, but there was no concession from the candidate Wednesday afternoon. Chiu, the author of an ordinance allowing Airbnb to operate in San Francisco, received major support from tech moguls Reid Hoffman and Ron Conway, who spent $675,000 on an independent campaign to defeat Campos.
