SAN FRANCISCO — Hewlett-Packard Co. closed the book in April on a wide-ranging U.S. government investigation into violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act with a $108 million settlement. Now, in an unusual postscript, Mexico’s state-owned oil and gas company, a target of the bribery scheme, has sued HP and its Mexican subsidiary, asking for damages from the alleged ill-gotten contracts.

The complaint, filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California by Petróleos Mexicanos, or Pemex, draws heavily from HP’s earlier settlement with the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission. The agreement resolved allegations that the company and its subsidiaries bribed foreign officials in Russia, Poland and Mexico.
