It seems like every week is a game of musical chairs, with attorneys and practice groups constantly moving from one firm to another. The number of laterals changing firms has never been higher. Increasingly, profitable practice groups have started to move faster and faster as firms eager to grow numerically and geographically show them the money.

Firms are starting to focus on just what they can do within the boundaries of attorney ethics rules and existing laws to protect their investments in people and practices. No firm wants to invest in the acquisition and development of attorneys or practice groups only to see them walk out the door just as they become profit centers.
