Since launching her solo practice in 1996, Berkeley disability rights lawyer Lainey Feingold has negotiated more than 50 settlements on behalf of blind clients with some of the largest companies in the country, including Bank of America Corp., Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Major League Baseball. Her work focuses on the intersection of accessibility and technology, whether it’s guaranteeing that websites are accessible to the blind or persuading companies to use new technologies to solve long-standing problems. Feingold employs a dispute-resolution method called structured negotiations that eschews litigation.

She spoke with The Recorder about her practice and how the Americans With Disabilities Act applies to law firms.
