SACRAMENTO — Critics of the vacation rental industry submitted nearly 16,000 signatures to San Francisco elections officials Monday in an attempt to qualify a November ballot measure that would curtail the operations of Airbnb Inc. and similar housing platforms in the city.
Leaders of ShareBetter SF, a group that includes affordable-housing proponents and organized hotel labor, say San Francisco’s current short-term rental ordinance, which just took effect in February, lacks enforcement teeth and exacerbates the city’s affordable-housing shortage.
