SAN FRANCISCO — For Sidley Austin, Los Angeles is a land of opportunity. The firm on Tuesday took two partners there from Manatt, Phelps & Phillips: litigator Chad Hummel and regulatory partner Clayton Friedman.

The new partners start Aug. 3 in Century City, and join hot on the heels of two other L.A. partners: mergers and acquisitions partner Dan Clivner, who joined from Simpson Thacher & Bartlett in May, and real estate partner Joel Rothstein, who came from Paul Hastings in June. Recruiter Sabina Lippman brokered all four moves, said Sidley’s Los Angeles co-managing partner, Michael Kelley.
