SAN FRANCISCO — A disbarred solo securities lawyer in Marin County has been charged with soliciting millions of dollars in fraudulent investments from clients and running a Ponzi scheme.

James Seltzer, whose LinkedIn profile says he has practiced securities law out of the Law Offices of James Jay Seltzer since 1973, has been charged with defrauding multiple clients by persuading them to contribute to sham investments. The 67-year-old Belvedere resident was apprehended in Hawaii and appeared in court in San Jose Friday, according to announcements by acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California Brian Stretch, as well as authorities in the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internal Revenue Service.
