SAN FRANCISCO — Bay area defense lawyers and one federal jurist needled a quintet of top U.S. law enforcement officials Tuesday night for more details about the U.S. Department of Justice’s renewed focus on prosecuting individuals in corporate cases.
The policy update was outlined in a memo issued this fall by U.S. Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates. Though months have passed, angst over the so-called Yates Memo spurred most of the questions to Leslie Caldwell, chief of the Criminal Division at the Department of Justice, and Acting U.S. Attorney Brian Stretch.
