SAN FRANCISCO — U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer, for once, appeared at a loss for words for a moment Wednesday morning.

While addressing former state Sen. Leland Yee during the disgraced politician’s sentencing hearing, Breyer wondered aloud how Yee, a San Francisco Democrat with a history of backing gun-control measures, could have agreed to illegally import weapons to raise campaign cash.
