Kenneth Bender, who heads knowledge management at Paul Hastings, watched as discovery went from being something law firms handled to something sent out to vendors. He doesn’t want to see due diligence go the same way. Which is why the firm is setting up a due diligence center in its Atlanta office, hiring a team of lower-cost lawyers who will do nothing but diligence on corporate deals.

“Clients really do value due diligence as something that you have to do in every transaction. They just don’t want to pay a lot for it,” said Bender, who is helping spearhead the project. “We understand that.”
